Are You Registered to Vote at the Upcoming Referendums
You cannot vote at the Referendums unless you are on the Register of Electors.
Have you checked recently? If not, there is still time to apply for inclusion in the Supplement in order to vote at the Referendums
To be eligible for inclusion, you must be:
- An Irish Citizen
- be ordinarily resident at the address at which you wish to be registered
- 18 years of age by polling day
If you have moved address recently and are registered elsewhere, you may apply to get on the Supplement at your new address.
Your application must be witnessed by:
A member of the Garda Síochana in your local Garda Station or, if you cannot attend your local Garda Station, by an official of your City or County Council provided you state the reason why you were unable to attend your Garda Station. If, because of a physical illness or physical disability, you cannot attend either your local Garda Station or your City or County Council office, your application form must be accompanied by a medical certificate.
- Application forms are available from Kilkenny County Council, Corporate Services, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny or Kilkenny Borough Council, City Hall Kilkenny and the final date for the receipt of completed forms is TUESDAY 17th SEPTEMBER 2013.
Postal Voters List
The following categories of persons can be registered as postal voters:
- electors with a physical illness or disability who are living at home
- electors who are unable to vote at their polling station due to circumstances of occupation etc.: employees and students etc.
- whole-time members of the Defence Forces who live in military barracks may be registered either at the barracks or at their home address;
- Irish diplomats posted abroad and their spouses - they are registered at their home address in Ireland.
Members of the Garda Siochana (police force) have the option of being registered as ordinary electors or as postal voters. In either case, they are registered at their home address. Applications to be entered on the Supplement to the postal voters list must bemade by Monday 9th September. An elector registered as a postal voter may vote by post only and may not vote at a polling station.
Special Voters List
Voters with physical disabilities or illness who are residing in a Nursing Home or Hospital are included in this list. In order to qualify, an elector's physical disability must be likely to continue for the duration of the register and prevent him/her from going to the polling station to vote.
Applications to be entered on the Supplement to the special voters list must be made by Monday 9th September and in the case of a first application must be accompanied by a medical certificate.
Electors on the special voters list vote by marking a ballot paper delivered to them by a special presiding officer accompanied by a Garda.
